Systems of Record, Systems of Action

An Agency Management System is a filing cabinet with a search box. That's not an insult — it's the job. It stores the official state of things, keeps an audit trail, and never loses anything. The same goes for a ledger, a back-office console, a core banking system. They're systems of record, and everything about how they're designed serves that: one screen per entity, tight permissions, careful, static.

It's easy to assume AI-native software replaces them. It doesn't, at least not in insurance or fintech. The record has to stay official and auditable. You can't let an AI quietly become the source of truth about someone's coverage or their money.

What AI-native software adds is a layer on top of the record: a system of action. It reads the record, understands the situation, drafts the work, and writes back, with a person checking and the record staying the ground truth underneath. The filing cabinet doesn't go away. It stops being the thing people operate by hand and becomes the thing their actions are grounded in.

One thing I keep coming back to: how much of a drafted write-back does a person actually read before approving it? From what I've seen so far, people read the first few carefully and then start trusting it.

The filing cabinet stays. What I'm building is the layer that reads it, drafts the work, and asks before it writes anything back.
